Finally! I’m recapping our recent baby shower! It was everything that I hoped it would be. It was a fun, colorful and intimate baby shower as I hoped. As I’ve mentioned in the past, I don’t really start off with a theme or color scheme when I throw a party. They usually evolve based on one factor. Our deciding factor to go with a Mexican Fiesta decor was the location of our baby shower. I didn’t want any of my family members to have to worry about decorating, serving or cleaning so we picked a local restaurant and it just so happened to be a Mexican place. Our Mexican fiesta theme was born! Then came the colorful and girly invitations and our color scheme was born. I wanted to avoid the baby shower feeling or looking like a Cinco De Mayo party and I knew that we could pull it off even if the color scheme was pink, purple and gold.

Los Angeles Baby Shower Venue

El Gallo Grill in East Los Angeles has the perfect patio and it was the ideal setting for our outdoor baby shower brunch.

Flower Clips for Babyshower

Our guests were all greeted with a flower to wear on their hair. All of my friends and family looked so beautiful and it set the mood for the big Mexican brunch.

Clothes Pins Baby Shower Game

They also received mini clothes pins as part of a baby shower game. Whoever collected the most received a grand prize at the end of the baby shower. The rules: Don’t say “baby” or cross your legs or arms or someone could take your pin away!

My friend and member of my L.A Mamacita Mommy Group won the grand prize or grand bottle! It was filled with shower essentials, comfy socks, nail polish and a Starbucks gift card.

Baby Food Baby Shower Game

In between eating a big Mexican breakfast  made up a red and green chilaquiles, huevos con chorizo, carne and pollo asado, potatoes, rice, beans, delicious pan dulce and jarritos ( I’m sad I didn’t get pictures of the food) the guests played other fun baby shower games. A blindfolded partner fed “the baby”, guessed the size of my belly, drew their best baby pictures and even raced to drink cerveza from a baby bottle while dressed like a big baby.

The Decor

Fiesta Baby Shower Decoration

Because we already had the perfect Mexican patio setting, I didn’t feel like we needed a whole lot of decor. We used four simple items to decorate the tables. On a trip the pinata district (I shopped at the first store I entered and made it work) I grabbed these mini burro pinatas (that we later spray painted), the zarape placemats and the paper flowers. We were originally going to use succulents as centerpieces but I found these vases at Dollar Tree and they worked out perfectly.
