I just watched the first episode of Better Things, the new FX series that sheds light on those days when you’re sleep-deprived and overwhelmed – and feeling maybe… perhaps… a little less than your best. It follows a trendy L.A Mom (just like you and me) and her daily struggles trying to make life happen for her and three young kids. I was hooked 10 seconds into the show. I don’t have a three kids, let alone a teenager but I could totally see bits and pieces of myself through her character. You can check out up to two full episodes here: https://ooh.li/a0b0d4f
Did you watch it? Are you hooked?!
What did you relate to?
I could totally relate to the first scene where she is letting her youngest daughter cry and throw a tantrum over earrings. She is showing tough love but then shows another side by offering to buy her a snack. The scene was funny and endearing!
and, how about the scene where she is driving with her teenage daughter and Max, the daughter turns around and asks mom to buy her weed. Her exact words were, “don’t you want me to have clean, organic pot?” Wow! I wouldn’t know what to say. I would secretly be thinking that I don’t want her to smoke pot but if she did, I would prefer it to be clean and organic. ha!
I also loved the daughters names. Duke, Frankie and Max. How cool is that?!
Seriously, check out the show now! Watch it here: https://ooh.li/a0b0d4f

Glad I ran into your post! Think I just found a new show to watch. I finished watching the first episode and the part that I can relate to the most is the part where she is putting Duke to bed and she wants her to lay down with her…totally reminded me of my daughter. She always like it when I tuck her into bed and wants me to lay with her and listen to meditation music. As much as I try to resist I can’t. I end up falling asleep with her and find myself waking up at 1 or 2 am confused. Lol. These are the little moments I will cherish because I know there will come a time when my daughter will not want to do this anymore.

I like the screaming in the pillow scene. It is so relatable!

Wow! This is more than just a show its a reflection of reality! Single mom trying to raise her child(ren), have a successful career, a social life and everything else…. can I say “#goals” but definitely most challenging to obtain or impossible. I really enjoy how this show demonstrate that being imperfect, having dysfunctional life/family and no really proper way to raise your kids it’s actually perfectly okay. And most importantly doing what works for you and your family. I’m a single mother of one, caregiver to my mom and currently working on my career. No balance what so ever, I have learned going with the flow and what works best for my family regardless of what others say. And maybe screaming into some pillows here and there will shopping for “one” is okay… lol I can’t wait to see how this show unfolds!

I love that this is FX’s first female lead. What a great part she has– and the fact that it is about a Mommy–the most important person in the world. The clips really capture how hard it is to be a mamma –how vulnerable you can be, how much pressure is on you to succeed and all the ups and downs that go with it. I hope that as the seasons progress that they are able to keep it real and authentic. The first looks are hilarious.
