Cupcake Family Fun! + { Review of Princess and Me Parties}

About a month ago I had the privilege to watch CINDERELLA before it was released on DVD. I made a day of it and got all my cousins and their babies together to host a Cinderella themed Cupcake Party. I was previously in contact with Ali, owner of Princess and Me Parties regarding a free one hour party in exchange for my honest review of her services. Having her come to our party was the perfect occasion!

Cupcake Time!
Cupcake Time!

If you know me, you know that I’m all for keeping the kids entertained.  Redundant as it may sound,  growing up in a Mexican family, the pinata and cake usually come last. Keeping the kids entertained comes after all the tia’s and compadres have eaten, even though it may have already been hours since the party started. I’m the total opposite. If you are my guest, then I encourage you to make yourself at home, fill your tummy but the kids having lots of fun is my priority and perfect excuse to plan fun parties.

Princess and Me Parties

The booking process was super easy. You fill out a form with all the information (party date, the character you are requesting, time, address, the number of kids who will be in attendance, etc.). I love in person and over the phone communication, but this process eliminates any room for miscommunication. Ali even sent a picture of the princess I requested to make sure we were on the same page. I requested modern Cinderella and having classic Cinderella show up would have been devastating! Yes, I’m that crazy mom who wants everything to be perfect.

Dancing with Cinderella

Dance time!

On the day of the party, everything went smoothly. I had booked Cinderella for 5PM and at 4:59 PM on the dot guess who came walking through the driveway to our party? Cinderella! Right on time. All of the girls ran up to her, and she made them smile right from the start. She read a story to them, painted their faces, brought coloring pages to keep those waiting in line entertained, danced, and even took the time to take individual pictures with all of them.  I have to commend her for handling all those crazy toddlers! She was professional, sweet and just made the party.

Hugs with Cinderella

Planning a party is time-consuming, hosting a party is stressful and can get expensive. My advice is to spend a little less time and money on trying to make the adults happy and hire entertainment for the kids! Our Cinderella Cupcake Party wouldn’t have been the same without Cinderella as the guest of honor.

So next time you have the opportunity to hang with your family, make a whole event out of it. Pick a theme, a color, a food! The options are endless. And, don’t forget the entertainment for the kids!

Do you believe in ghosts?

Do you believe in ghosts?

I do. Tales of El Cucuy, La Llorona and La Mano Peluda were all stories and scare tactics my Mexican mom used on me when I was growing up.

To this day, personal stories of encounters with ghosts and spirits are usually a topic brought up during family reunions and not once have I heard any of my family members doubt the legitimacy of the story. We all join the stories with No!  De veras? A poco?! We also tell our own. Like the time when I heard my little brother and sister knocking on the bathroom door asking to me to let them in but when I opened the door no one was home! Interestingly enough, I’ve never really been scared of the ghosts or spirits. Perhaps, I’m not scared because I can’t prove it 100% so why be scared of something that may or may not be real?

Paranormal Activity with Chris Chacon at Heritage Museum

Last week, I had the opportunity to meet Chris Chacon at a press event at The Heritage Museum in Pasadena. He is not only not scared of ghosts but is an experienced and knowledgeable researcher on the investigation and research of psychic and parapsychological phenomena, as well as an expert on mysticism, metaphysics and obscure occult practices and rituals. In other words, he’s a real life ghost hunter, who can tell you if the voice you heard, the shadow you saw or the cold breeze you felt is real ghost or not.  Hollywood comes running to him when they are in need of an expert to assist with the authenticity of their horror film storyline.

Ghost Hunting with Chris Chacon
Ghost Hunting with Chris Chacon

Chacon has worked on films like, “THE EXORCIST”, “POLTERGEIST”, “CONSTANTINE” AND “PARANORMAL ACTIVITY” to name a few.  The movies we have all watched on the big screen probably all have Chacon’s input and now with Halloween right around the corner, we are about to witness another. Paramount is releasing the horrifying conclusion to the Paranormal Activity films titled the “GHOST DIMENSION.”

Chris gave me insight into his profession and not once did it feel like he was trying to convince anyone that ghosts do exist.  He only becomes involved in these rare cases when all physical, environmental, mental, or other explanations have already been ruled out.  So although rare, the stories that you see on the screen, have happened, could happen and are happening!

I got a little freaked out by that information, but not enough to stop this mommy from making October 23rd a date night with the hubby.

“PARANORAL ACTIVITY-THE GHOST DIMENSION” will be in theatres on October 23rd.

I’m the type of mom who sits down and watches movies and cartoons with my toddler and really get into it!

DEAR SOFIA: A ROYAL COLLECTION has to be one of the cutest and most sincere kids entertainment that I have seen in a while. I know that if I were a kid (which I’m at heart)  I would totally be obsessed with this DVD as much as my daughter is. From the moment you get to open the package, you receive an awesome surprise- A FREE Sofia-themed stationary set for kids to write a hand-written letter to Sofia. Each child who submits a letter will receive a response back from Sofia in the mail! My daughter’s only chore is to check the mail and knowing that she will soon be receiving correspondence from Sofia is super exciting to both of us! Your princess or princes can also write to Sofia. The address is below!

SYPNOSIS: Join Sofia as she receives guidance from Disney Princesses and goes on a daring adventure with Mulan in the Kingdom of Wei Ling, soars through the skies with Jasmine on a magic carpet ride, and discovers important lessons about friendship and life’s true gifts from Belle and Tiana. Packed with endless fun, music and heart – plus two additional episodes – “Dear Sofia: A Royal Collection” is a not-to-be-missed celebration highlighting the qualities that make a true princess – honesty, loyalty, compassion and grace.

I love that the DVD is broken up into episodes. My daughter is only 2 and can only stay still for so long. She enjoyed watching one episode a day since we received the DVD to review. She also loved seeing a different princess on a new adventure with Sofia each time we popped in the DVD!

Hasta Siempre, Sabado Gigante!

Tonight we will all say hasta Siempre to Sabado Gigante. Sabado Gigante is the longest-running variety show and after 53 years of Hispanic families all over the world tuning in on Saturday nights the show will air its last episode. I have to admit that I haven’t watched the show in years but a few weeks ago, decided to turn it on as exposure to the Spanish language for my daughter. More than anything, I wanted her to get a taste of my childhood. I remember cracking up to the hysterical “La Cuatro” and feeling bummed for the contestants who didn’t make it past “El Chacal De La Trompeta” while trying to wow him with their singing skills. It was a place to see famous singers who I could never afford to see in real life and a first introduction to future stars like Jenni Rivera and Enrique Iglesias. I especially loved the segment with the kids who were my age who sat with Don Francisco to talk about everyday topics

So on that day, a few weeks ago when I heard it would no longer be on the air, I decided that it was time for us to start tuning in for the remainder of the Saturdays.  Today we will say adios, and although my daughter is too young to remember it, I will make sure to document it with a picture or video. When she grows up, I will tell her more about how she too enjoyed Sabado Gigante in her childhood.

Sabado Gigante was a big part of my life, and I have many memories of watching it with my family. I will truly miss it.

What are your favorite Sabado Gigante memories?

“Have Courage & Be Kind” Cinderella Cupcake Party & Free Printables

DISNEY MOVIES ANYWHERE on September 15, 2015

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. If I could make one wish for my daughter is that she grow up to be a kind, generous, humble and courageous woman. Disney’s CINDERELLA does a great job of sending out that message. In fact, the film’s most popular quote is “Have Courage and Be Kind”.  It touched on subjects such as love and loss, family, and even bullying, and my little family and I loved every minute of the movie. All three of us had different aspects that we enjoyed. My husband was impressed with the cast and the humor involved, my daughter loved all the magic, the colors and, of course, the princess. I loved the daughter mother bond between Ella (Lily James) and her mother.  I also love the amazing costumes, especially every single dress that the evil step-mother wore (Cate Blanchett) they all looked as if they were straight out a couture runway.  I got super excited when I popped in the movie and realized that you have the option to play it in English, French or Spanish.  As someone who is raising a bilingual child, it is always a big deal when Spanish is an option!

SYNOPSIS:  Celebrate Disney’s “Cinderella,” a modern classic that shines with beauty, imagination…and magic! Despite being mistreated by her stepmother (Cate Blanchett) and stepsisters, a spirited Ella (Lily James) resolves to take charge of her fate. Add a royal ball, a Fairy Godmother (Helena Bonham-Carter) and a glass slipper, and suddenly – magic becomes reality!

Over 12 Minutes of Additional Scenes, Including an Alternate Opening,
Plus the “Frozen Fever” Theatrical Short!

Because I found the message of the film to be inspiring, I also hosted a screening party for my daughter and all her little cousins so that they too could learn from it. The theme of the party was  “Have Courage and Be Kind” cupcake party! My family and I love that our girls will grow up together like we did.  We want to make sure that they love, respect and are kind to one another.  The girls loved the party theme.  They watched the movie, colored, argued (and made up), danced, sang, and ate lots of cupcakes. They especially loved when Cinderella herself showed up!
