Water Fun at Santa Fe Dam

My best childhood memories were spent at Santa Fe Dam in Irwindale. No one in the family had a big backyard so on special occasions like Fourth of July or Memorial Day weekend the whole family got together there.  The best part is that it’s only 20-30 minutes away from Los Angeles.  You can bike, fish, rent a boat and they even have a man made beach. That was always my favorite part.  My new favorite amenity is the kid’s splash pad.

We visited the splashpad last weekend and had a blast!! The best part about it is that it’s practically hidden in the back of the park so I’m letting you in on a cool Los Angeles little secret! We were one of four families there. The surrounding area is not as nice looking as the rest of the park. That area of the park must have suffered severely from  California drought because it looked liked it had been burned down. Either way, we had lots of family fun in this hidden gem!

So here’s the important info you’ll need to make a fun day out of it!

Parking is $10 per car. Arrive early because if the park reaches capacity they will close for a few hours. We arrived at 1 PM and barely made it in. My friend came around two and didn’t make it until 4 PM. The splash pad is located next to parking lot 5. They have an hour and half sessions. That was the perfect amount for us but you can stay for more sessions if you would like. They charge $2 per person (even little babies) and everyone must have a bathing suit on. Even if you don’t plan to get in the water.  I did like that they let us set up our canopy and blankets on the grassy area inside. Dahlia took a good nap while the hubby and I took turns playing with Ji in the water.

Once we had our fun in the water park we drove to another area that was close to a playground and set up a picnic. As soon as Ji has her swimming lessons we will definitely be spending time in the beach area this Summer. Especially because it’s the perfect halfway point to meet up with my Inland Empire friends.

Do you have a favorite Los Angeles Recreational Area?

I would love to check it out!

See you there,

Summer Memories at Barnes & Noble

Summer is here and I’m super excited to make new memories. If you’ve been reading my blog posts you know that I’m always on a look out for fun and free activities that I can do with the kids to create those memories. You also know that I immediately share my cool finds with you!

Today we headed out to Barnes & Noble. It’s one of my new favorite places to spend an afternoon at. Yes, a whole afternoon! They host awesome events and bring major authors, actors, musicians and other celebrities to stores across the country. The hubby and I like to grab a Starbucks coffee (they have them in store!), read to the babes in the kids play area, let Ji play and make new friends or just take it easy and walk around looking for cool new books to add to our collection.

Barnes & Noble Americana Balcony View

On my Summer reading list is Kevin Hart’s book I Can’t Make This Up: Life Lessons. I recently had the opportunity to interview him and was so inspired by his words that I just have to know more about his journey. He’s one of the authors who will be at Barnes & Noble, so if you want to meet him too, I suggest grabbing his book and going to one of his book signings. Trust me, you’ll want to meet him!

I really want my readers to take part in the fun, so I’m going to give away a $20 Gift Card to one lucky person, so that you can buy your favorite celebrity’s book and meet them! Click here to find events near you and let me know which one you want to attend by commenting on this blog post.

First theatre experience at Storybook Theatre in North Hollywood

We took both of the girls to their first theatre play this weekend.  Princess and The Frog at Theatre West was the perfect option. They do cute musicals with a life message that is perfect for kids ages 3-9 but my little Dahlia who is five months old couldn’t take her eyes off of the colorful stage!

baby's first play

Don’t worry if you think your kids won’t stay still! They don’t need to be super quiet because it’s a very interactive hour.  The actors are great with the kids and have them come up to the stage throughout the play.  Ji couldn’t get enough of her moments to shine. She raised her hand each time the opportunity was given!  She loves to play dress up so understandably she wanted to be an actress for the day.

Stoybook Theatre Box Office

There’s a short intermission and the kids are offered yummy treats like cookies and juice.  Once the play is over the fun continues! The kids have the opportunity to meet the cast, get autographs and take pictures with the characters. It’s such a great place to introduce your kids to the world of theatre!

Princess Autographing

Before we left the house we went over some simple theatre etiquette:

  • We need to be on time
  • We need to go to the potty before the performance starts.
  • No talking unless you are invited to by the cast
  • Applaud at the end!

Storybook Theatre is located inside Theatre West in North Hollywood. Location:  3333 Cahuenga Blvd. West 90068

They also host school groups and offer special packages for birthday parties!

See you there!

Sip, Style and Socialize; An L.A Mommy Only Event

When Ji was three months old, I became active in looking for ways to connect with other Los Angeles mothers with similar lifestyles as mine. I was looking for moms who worked from home, owned a small business and/or were as crunchy as I am. I know there are other Latina moms in Los Angeles who are a little bit old school like their mothers, raising bi-lingual children, doing the entrepreneur thing and always looking for the best, safest and healthiest options for their kids. That’s me and I just knew there were more moms out there that could I form a community with. So, far before the L.A Mamacita Blog was created, the L.A Mamacita Mommy Group was my thing. I organized mommy and me get togethers as being a coordinator and connecting people has always been a passion of mine.

Mommy and Me Playdate at MOCA
Mommy and Me Playdate at MOCA

In 2016, I organized a playdate at MOCA and the theme of that get together was to talk about our careers and to bounce ideas off each other. I’ll always hold that playdate special to my heart because that’s where I met another L.A Mamacita as passionate as I am about connecting like-minded moms. She also loves to plan and organize events! I’m a firm believer that when strong women support each other in an effort to create good, amazing things happen. That mamacita is Janet of Jan’s Spring. We have now joined forces to create L.A Mamacitas, an events community focused on bringing like-minded Latina moms in a stylish and relaxing environment. We all like to have cute Instagram pictures, right? I know I’ve gone off on a tangent but I just wanted to give you a little back story before I dived into recapping our latest event. Sip, Style and Socialize!

Janet and I wanted to give our fellow L.A Mamacitas the opportunity give themselves the gift of a few hours for themselves in order to relax, get pampered, have mimosa and socialize with other Los Angeles moms. Our vision came true on April 30th. When about 30 mamacitas came together at IKO Studios in the Arts District in Downtown, Los Angeles to have a great time.

A Mommy Only EventMake over partyLA Mamacitas CelebratingMamas Balloons Our guests also had the opportunity to do a little shopping. The super stylish and fellow mommy blogger Maria from Fashion Seekers Boutique was there offering her trendy clothes at amazing prices!

We wanted moms to not only come and relax but also to sit down and think about their goals in life. We get so caught up with wanting to be the best parents we could be, that sometimes we forget how to be the best version of ourselves.

Vision Board Set UpEvery mamacita in attendance went home with swag bag filled with goodies like make-up, candles and jewelry.

Sip, Style and Socialize Swag Bag

Some extra lucky mamas took home raffle items like a mommy and me photoshoot from my hubby’s photography company The Medina Creative, a goody box filled with mommy essentials from Mama Love Collective, a gift card from Fashion Seekers Boutique and stunning necklace and other goodies hand picked by the L.A Mamacitas duo.

Mamas Raffle Items

This event was truly an amazing experience. This was a team effort and it could not have been done without women coming together for a collective cause. Yes, we were there to socialize but most of all, it was event that was created to support each others hustle. Whether the mom’s where there to get away for the day, to meet others going through similar experiences, to share their craft and/or to make new friends, we hope that everyone took away a lasting memory with them.

and, if you missed it don’t worry because Sip, Style and Socialize 2018 is already in the works! Keep an eye out for tickets sales and for the dates of our up-coming events by following our Instagram page.  We can’t wait to do it again!

We cannot thank our guests and those who lent their expertise to make our vision a reality enough. Thank you so much!

Get social with CityMoms App

I started the blog because I wanted to share all the fun events I was experiencing with Ji. Every month I would post a long list of events around Los Angeles that I thought would be fun for families to attend. I love sharing information with my readers but that list would take me hours to create and post, plus, not to mention hours on top of hours of research!

A few months ago, I was introduced to Citymoms app, and I loved it. Why didn’t I come up with this idea?! It’s a free app where you can find tons of activities for you and the kids to do. It’s really easy to use and it has a great filter feature so that you can find activities and events based on age and location. The location part is the my favorite because driving around Los Angeles can take hours, so the closer the better for me!

The Citymoms app also hosts free events around the city. I love that because I’m all about the FREE events! As a matter of fact, I will be hosting an event with them on April 13th at The Great Escape Club. Save the date and RSVP through the CityMoms app. You will be entered to win prizes!

Try CityMom app to get ahead of the game and plan your activities now, meet new friends and have some fun.

Take advantage and use my promo code lamamacita50 for 50% off your first month’s membership!

See you soon!
