Sweetfang Sundae Recipe

I have the sweetest tooth. All I can ever think about is dessert and even though today is officially the first day of Fall, it is hot as ever in Los Angeles. Because I’m super excited about HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA 2 coming to theatres in just a couple of days, I decided to make Drac inspired ice cream dessert. I call it “Sweetfang Sundae” and it was delicious!

Sweetfang Sundae

You’ll need four ingredients:

Vanilla Ice Cream
Frozen Strawberries
Whipped Cream

Strawberries Spread ( I used Smucker’s squeezeable)

My husband opted for cookies and cream and insisted that I call his dessert “spookies and cream,” whichever flavor you choose, will be delicious!

Enjoy!

HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA 2 will be out in theatres on September 25th Watch official trailer here!

Hasta Siempre, Sabado Gigante!

Tonight we will all say hasta Siempre to Sabado Gigante. Sabado Gigante is the longest-running variety show and after 53 years of Hispanic families all over the world tuning in on Saturday nights the show will air its last episode. I have to admit that I haven’t watched the show in years but a few weeks ago, decided to turn it on as exposure to the Spanish language for my daughter. More than anything, I wanted her to get a taste of my childhood. I remember cracking up to the hysterical “La Cuatro” and feeling bummed for the contestants who didn’t make it past “El Chacal De La Trompeta” while trying to wow him with their singing skills. It was a place to see famous singers who I could never afford to see in real life and a first introduction to future stars like Jenni Rivera and Enrique Iglesias. I especially loved the segment with the kids who were my age who sat with Don Francisco to talk about everyday topics

So on that day, a few weeks ago when I heard it would no longer be on the air, I decided that it was time for us to start tuning in for the remainder of the Saturdays.  Today we will say adios, and although my daughter is too young to remember it, I will make sure to document it with a picture or video. When she grows up, I will tell her more about how she too enjoyed Sabado Gigante in her childhood.

Sabado Gigante was a big part of my life, and I have many memories of watching it with my family. I will truly miss it.

What are your favorite Sabado Gigante memories?

DISNEY’S BELOVED AND EMPOWERING FAIRYTALE TOLD IN A NEW BEAUTIFUL AND MAGICAL WAY

Cinderella
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. If I could make one wish for my daughter is that she grow up to be a kind, generous, humble and courageous woman. Disney’s CINDERELLA does a great job of sending out that message. In fact, the film’s most popular quote is “Have Courage and Be Kind”.  It touched on subjects such as love and loss, family, and even bullying, and my little family and I loved every minute of the movie. All three of us had different aspects that we enjoyed. My husband was impressed with the cast and the humor involved, my daughter loved all the magic, the colors and, of course, the princess. I loved the daughter mother bond between Ella (Lily James) and her mother.  I also love the amazing costumes, especially every single dress that the evil step-mother wore (Cate Blanchett) they all looked as if they were straight out a couture runway.  I got super excited when I popped in the movie and realized that you have the option to play it in English, French or Spanish.  As someone who is raising a bilingual child, it is always a big deal when Spanish is an option!

SYNOPSIS:  Celebrate Disney’s “Cinderella,” a modern classic that shines with beauty, imagination…and magic! Despite being mistreated by her stepmother (Cate Blanchett) and stepsisters, a spirited Ella (Lily James) resolves to take charge of her fate. Add a royal ball, a Fairy Godmother (Helena Bonham-Carter) and a glass slipper, and suddenly – magic becomes reality!

Because I found the message of the film to be inspiring, I also hosted a screening party for my daughter and all her little cousins so that they too could learn from it. The theme of the party was  “Have Courage and Be Kind” cupcake party! My family and I love that our girls will grow up together like we did.  We want to make sure that they love, respect and are kind to one another.  The girls loved the party theme.  They watched the movie, colored, argued (and made up), danced, sang, and ate lots of cupcakes. They especially loved when Cinderella herself showed up!

Mickey’s Monster Musical Review And Give Away With Free Printables

I received a free copy of this DVD.  However, all opinions expressed are my own.

We love Halloween and October can’t get here fast enough. Luckily, we were able to get a taste of it when we previewed the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Mickey’s Monster Musical DVD today! We made a whole event out of it and my almost two-year-old was able to host her very first film screening at home. She’s quite the host and even had me make Mickey Mouse shaped cookies for her and her little friends. What a mess the cookies made but a what a cute sight to see their little faces full of gooey, gobbly frosting!

We got the DVD and inside a super cute surprise! A FREE Trick-Or-Treat Reusable Mini Tote! My daughter loves bags, purses and any other accessories that she can get her hands on, and it is her perfect size. The bag will be perfect for when we go trick-or-treating at Disneyland later this month.

“Packed with singing, dancing, laughter and surprises, Mickey’s Monster Musical is a high-spirited treat that can’t be beat”
This musical is just too cute. It is broken up into episodes, and the girls were able to munch on their treats, play and watch some more! They had an amazing time watching “Count Mickula” and even sang and danced along. I loved watching their 3 and 2-year-old faces light up when I gave them activity sheets. They are quite the artists.

..
I know that your little ones would love it too so I’m giving away a copy to one lucky reader! All you have to do is continue using #iamLAmamacita on your Instagram posts, and I will randomly select a winner tomorrow. Better yet, I’ll also treat you to magnet set, a book block set and a puzzle!
How’s that for a fun treat?

$1 Summer Movies

The other day I was told by young family members of mine that they have never been to a movie theatre.  I was baffled by it because I grew up going to the drive-in and I can vividly remember watching The Lion King on the big screen.  Because of that conversation,  another memory came to mind.  It’s one that I’ve meaning to share with you all Summer long, but it somehow skipped my mind!   The good news is that there is still time to enjoy $1 movies.
Yes, $1!

I totally get that having a day out with the kids can quickly turn into $100 spent on admissions and meals.  Fortunately, I’m here to save you lots of dinero.  I hope that you can still plan a fun memory with your kids this Summer at the movies.

Luxurious Beach House Daycation For Just $12

Have you ever wanted to spend a luxurious day at the beach without the crowds? If you are a daydreamer like me, then you have probably fantasized about owning a beach house. I typically have those dreams while driving down the coast admiring the mansions that sit alongside the ocean. I don’t have millions to spend, but luckily I have found a community beach house in Santa Monica where it would cost as little as $12 a day to enjoy. Yes, $12 a day!

Annenberg3

The community beach house is just a few steps away from the ocean, and we got to enjoy the cliché walk on the beach while the sun was setting

The house is a well kept Los Angeles secret, but I found out about it last Winter and have been looking forward to taking my family there.  When Summer arrived, I decided to start planning our trip and thought that I would create an itinerary for the day! However, my husband had other plans and on Tuesday afternoon came home announcing that we were taking a day trip. With 5 minutes to prepare, I grabbed beach necessities and instructed my husband to drive to the Annenberg Community Beach House in Santa Monica.

We quickly found on-site parking upon arriving and hurried over to enter the pool. We thought we would spend the entire day there but when my daughter spotted the splash pad, our plans changed. The pad was small but, for the most part, she had it all to herself, and we liked that although it was later in the day, the water splashing out of the fountains was warm.   My husband and I had the option to sit under the umbrellas, grab lawn chairs or sit in the green grassy area. We chose the chairs right in front of the splash pad, and although we weren’t getting wet, we had just as much fun watching our baby play.

Below are more details about our trip!

Because I didn’t have time to pack snacks we had to purchase a small meal at the on-site cafe. It was yummy! We opted for carry out and enjoyed a burger on the trendy patio furniture.   I can’t remember if they sell alcohol, but the place is also a perfect setting for an inexpensive dinner and wine date with the hubby.

I’m a sucker for anything with history and my favorite part of the day was the free docent-led tour of the Marion Davis guesthouse located right next door. If you don’t know who Marion Davis is, she was an actress better known for hosting lavish parties for Hollywood royalty. It was so much fun being in her guesthouse and envisioning the soirees that took place in the 1930’s.

Annenberg1

Had I packed a lunch we would have only spent $12 to enjoy a whole day of activities.   We laid, we swam, we ate, we walked, and we even danced! Not too bad for a last minute trip. In my opinion, this is the type of place that you either want to share with the entire world or keep it a secret! I’ve decided to share it with you. Do you have a special place in Southern Cali that you think I would enjoy?

Dime por favor and I might feature it here!
Nos vemos en la playa,

Freshly Picked Review & Give Away

I had never heard of Freshly Picked Moccasins until I started following Instagram shops. I started following them when I realized my daughter had more clothes that she could ever wear, and I too got in on the baby clothes selling frenzy.  By following the Instagram shops you often see an on-line trend and being a baby fashion fan, I jumped on FP moccs bandwagon. I could never justify spending $60 on baby shoes so when a shop offered EUC (Excellent Used Condition) ones for $32 shipped I jumped on it, and I love them so!

FreshlyPickedReview3

I’ll tell you why we love them so. First of all, this child has a wide foot. She also curls her toes whenever we put shoes on her. The moccasins have elastic, and they stretch wide enough to get her feet in there comfortably. At first I was concerned that she would slip but the leather is pretty sturdy, and she walks just fine with them on. They also go with everything! Doesn’t she look cute?  Another pro is that they are easy to clean. I used baby wipes, and they are back to pretty. FreshlyPickedReview4

There are a couple of things that I would change about them.

1. I really feel like the bigger sizes need to have a hard sole. It scares me to let her walk on pavement with them on. I once stepped on a nail when I was younger and I feel like the moccs wouldn’t protect her from something like that. Also, pavement is really harsh on them and the one time she wore them on a 5 minute walk they got really scratched up. I say, wear them indoors or on fluffy grass.
2. The price. Would I spend $60 of my own money on them? Probably not. I understand that they are hand made but I would suggest a price point of $40. I sold a used pair on-line for $20.

My overall opinion is that they are awesome. They are super cute and comfty! They just require a little extra attention but hey are eyes are already on the kids 24-7, right? What is one more thing?!

If you have been wanting a pair of these but I haven’t the monies to splurge or can’t justify the purchase like me then you are in luck!
